As parents, we all want to help our children build a strong foundation in faith, but sometimes it can be challenging to explain big biblical concepts in ways that little minds can understand. Jesus Himself used parables and illustrations to teach, making complex truths accessible through stories and visual examples. We can follow His example by using hands-on, creative activities to help our children engage with Scripture in a meaningful way.

One powerful verse to explore with your child is Proverbs 3:18:

"She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her." (NKJV)

This verse speaks about wisdom, comparing it to a tree of life—something strong, growing, and life-giving. What better way to teach this than by creating a Wisdom Tree Craft with your child?

A Hands-On Activity: The Wisdom Tree

This simple and engaging craft helps children visualize how God’s wisdom helps us grow, just like a tree planted in good soil.

Materials Needed:

  • Green and brown construction paper or cardstock

  • Blue construction paper for clouds

  • Scissors

  • Glue or tape

  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils

  • A large piece of poster board (cut in half)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Create the Tree – Cut out a large tree trunk from brown construction paper and branches from green paper. Encourage your child to color the trunk in different shades of brown and the leaves in different shades of green.

  2. Assemble the Tree – Glue the green branches onto the brown trunk to complete the tree. This represents how wisdom grows in our hearts when we hold onto God’s truth.

  3. Add the Clouds – Cut out three cloud shapes from blue paper.

    • On the first cloud, write “Proverbs 3:18.”

    • On the second cloud, write the full verse.

    • On the third cloud, help your child write a simple note about what the verse means (e.g., "God’s wisdom helps me make good choices").

  4. Create the Flowers – Cut out two flowers to represent your child and the Holy Spirit. Cut out two small circles and write your child’s name on one and “Holy Spirit” on the other, then glue them to the flowers. This symbolizes how the Holy Spirit helps us grow in wisdom.

  5. Put It All Together – Once everything is dry, glue all the pieces onto the poster board.

  6. Talk About It – As you craft, discuss how wisdom helps us make choices that lead to joy and strength, just like a tree planted in good soil.

Why This Matters

Children learn best when they see, touch, and create. This activity:

✔ Helps kids visualize Scripture in a way that makes sense to them.

✔ Encourages hands-on learning, reinforcing the lesson through play.

✔ Gives you an opportunity to talk about faith in a natural, engaging way.

✔ Creates a lasting piece of art that serves as a daily reminder of God’s truth.

Making Faith a Daily Habit

Activities like this don’t just teach Scripture—they also help build habits of engaging with God’s Word. Set aside a little time each day for a simple Bible verse and craft, song, or discussion. Faith grows in the everyday moments we share with our children.
